INTRODUCTION

Launched last September in the Design Flanders gallery, MÖBEL is a furniture collection designed by recognised designers (Studio Makkink & Bey, Maarten De Ceulaer, Jij’s and Kaspar Hamacher, a.o.), and made by those working in the social economy.
The label ResourceLab started in spring 2011. This recycling atelier is the production site of the non-profit association WEB, which produces new products by completely reworking unsaleable objects from its chain of second-hand shops, known as the Kringwinkelcentrum.
Situated in Turnhout, ResourceLab also carries out bespoke work that allows WEB to offer sustainable jobs to vulnerable people.

INTRODUCTION

MAD in Situ is the lab for social innovation and social design of MAD Brussels.
As part of the Environment-Employment Alliance – food, Brussels Environment & MAD Brussels are the initiators of an inter-student competition including ENSAV La Cambre (industrial design), Erg (graphic design), and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels (Food design master). One of the missions of the contest was to reward the most promising project in sustainable food in Brussels. The jury selected as the winner Ecco Freddo: a family of modular objects serving as support for a new approach to food preservation without using the refrigerator and energy consumption. The presentation of the prototype is accompanied by a series of workshops around preservation methods and food preparation.
